The world according to Wynn

Nobody likes a sore winner and Steve Wynn has nothing but unkind words for Elaine Wynn, a week after she was voted off the Wynn Resorts board. His dismissive attitude toward her criticisms of the board’s composition makes me skeptical that we’re going to see much in the way of diversity on that august (and very white, very male) body. Also, despite having been pummeled by government policy in China, Wynn warbles a sweet serenade to Peking and blames his problems on the White House. (His maudlin remark about “if” we get a change in administration in 2016 is faintly bizarre. Does he expect the election to be canceled?)

* Las Vegas sports books are in a sweat that the Mayweather-Pacquiao might end in a draw, a proposition that has 18-1 odds and would clean the books’ clocks. Jay Rood of MGM Resorts International may have overdone the anxiety, though, when he called a no-decision a “deadly, worst-case scenario.” No, that would be if the outcome of the fight triggers violence in Sin City (and boy is Las Vegas Metro laying on the preparation). Mind you, the line could move, with heavy money expected to come in today and tomorrow, probably shortening the odds.

Scalpers, however, may have overplayed  their hand. As of yesterday, StubHub was stuck with nearly 1,100 unsold tickets.

* During otherwise inconclusive court testimony, Sheldon Adelson got treated with exactly the amount of deference he deserved.
