… to discover that there is gambling in this establishment. Of 38 video clips on Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas‘ You Tube channel, not one is devoted to the casino floor. Geez, you think this “hide the gaming” marketing approach might have something to do with the Cosmo’s distinctly anemic (as in a dismal 22% of the gross) casino revenues?
P.S.: I’d suggest dropping the twee terminology “quirky mashup” from future PR materials. It makes the Cosmo sound like it’s trapped in a Wes Anderson film festival.
Who’s strategy was it to build a $4 billion place and target 25 year old douchebags with no money? I guess they will fill the gambling void with their brilliant locals strategy.
Not sure what the casino demo is. Knew some folks from other properties that went to work there. Asked me to stop by. I did in January and shot dice for about 45 minutes. Lost a dime. Had a players card so they have my info. Have recieved exactly one email from them and one mailer over the last seven months. Guess they don’t want or need my action.
Yes, it’s a fun place to explore. And a fun place to drop a dollar or two. But their Player’s Club needs some serious attention in order to bring gamblers back for more than the chance to show Cosmo off to someone who hasn’t yet seen this mashup.
One thing I enjoyed was the semi-private slot parlors scattered near the entrance. A great idea for the casual gambler, but not enough to bring a player back again and again.
But I’m guessing they’ll keep reinventing The Cosmopolitan, and eventually they will get it right.
By targeting the Sundance Channel crowd, I’m guessing they’re trying to romance young sophisticates who think casinos are terminally uncool. And if they’re going to lead with Cosmo entertainment offerings (like the recent Adele) concert in their promotional push, I’m bemused by the decision to not build out the showrooms (as opposed to opening with fewer hotel rooms, say).
Second trip to Cosmo coming up and have to agree with the lack of attention to the casino. Love the property, but am a 15k credit player and can’t get a host to call me. I’ll take care of my own arrangements but will govern my play accordingly.
