“I must have missed that lecture in school.” — Rep. Joe Heck (R-NV) on senatorial aspirant Todd Akin‘s curious theories of reproduction. Dr. Heck, it should be noted is not only an M.D. but a battlefield surgeon who has tended to our wounded in Iraq. We need more like him. As for Akin’s self-professed friendship with another American hero, John Paul Jones (1747-1792), that would make the outgoing Missouri congressman a spry 230 years old, at minimum. His AARP discounts must be awesome!

Of course Dr. Heck will denounce the insane notion of an inner body pregnancy defense, but on actual policy regarding abortion he is lock-step with Todd Akin. Joe Heck Co-Sponsored HR3, which attempted to re-define rape and end all abortions in the U.S. All Akin did was give an absurd excuse to deny women control of their own destiny. Heck supportes the exact same thing, only without the insane excuse. I thank Dr. Heck for his efforts regarding our wounded warriors, but I certainly don’t agree with him that women should have to carry a rapists child. Women need to make these difficult choices on their own. And nothing screams “small government” like pregnancy police, right…
