We live in a fair city where a trip to the nearest Dairy Queen means being in mortal peril of being attacked with a whacking great sword. Also, you’ll get to learn more about Commercial Center than you probably want to know (including where the swingers’ club is). Then you get some brand-new musical theater that hopes to follow in the footsteps of Evil Dead The Musical … with a side order of S&M retail.
Here are snippets of two of Summer Camp!‘s funniest songs. First, “We’re Getting Laid,” featuring Joe Hynes and Tony Blosser …… and Mr. Blosser — who gives the best off-Strip performance of 2012 — again (plus chorines) in the gut-busting “Fanny Pack,” which should be Las Vegas‘ civic anthem. Three performances remain this weekend, all at 8 p.m.
And this is what I’m doing on my evenings and weekends. Alas, we are unlikely to be invited to extend our nine-performance, “tab” version of Hamlet on the Strip or Downtown, even though we’re totally freaking better than Surf the Musical … admittedly, not a high bar to clear.
In the immortal words of Ronn L. Williams Jr. (Claudius), “Shakespeare was deep, baby.”
